The
City of Charlottesville is actually quite small with a 2015 census count of just 46,597. The geographic boundaries of the City are indistinct so without a map in hand you probably won’t be sure whether you are in the City or Albemarle County as you tour the neighborhoods. When we think of real estate in the city of Charlottesville it’s the old neighborhoods that come to mind like Belmont, Fifeville, Woolen Mills and Fryes Springs, each with a unique character steeped in Charlottesville history. The
North Downtown area and the
University area offer some fine old homes and those within walking distance to the
historic downtown mall are highly prized. While space is scarce for new construction in the city there are some nice new projects built on in-fill parcels and some dramatic town-homes and condominium projects with enough elevation from roof top terraces to enjoy spectacular mountain views within the city limits.
